I caught the 20th anniversary of Dance Now show at Joe’s Pub. It’s a festival for dance! Many performances were contemporary. Every year, Dance Now New York is around second week of September.
Two drinks minimum (each drink is about $8USD+) plus cost of tickets at $20USD. My bill works out to be $50.52 and $33.31 = $83.83CAD total for a dance festival! Also because I ordered the house cocktails which were $15USD each and very delicious.
Joe’s Pub is a fancy bar with a tiny stage. When buying the ticket, you can reserve any seat. My show was the first night, and I bought the ticket 2 hours before the start time. Since I came alone, I chose a spot at a booth table for 4. Two people didn’t show up!! So it was only me and one other person at the table with lots of space to sit.
The dances were beautiful and expressive. Some extremely political! Each performance is short at 10 minutes maximum. I know nothing about dance.
The dance seem more about body movement. They’re very artistic. Most of them tell a story.
The person I shared the table with asked if I were a dancer. The subsequent people I met also asked the same question. It’s not like I have to be a dancer to watch a show, right??? I don’t dance, but so what?
Pleasantly surprised at the number of performances that night! There were about 10? Yes the $80 is hefty but I’m a tourist. It was a nice evening.
